Versi-Panel Enclosures unveils innovative support dunnage
V-Crate, a trade name of Versi-Panel Enclosures, today announced the inaugural shipment of Aircraft Fuselage Support Dunnage, the first product of its kind in the industry. This project represents cutting-edge technology in support dunnage (protective packing material).
Stephen Schlosser, Design Engineer for Versi-Panel, led the team to the completion of this creative, sustainable, reusable support structure being used in the shipment of a 18' x 70' aircraft fuselage from the United States to Europe.
"The dunnage and crate will be knocked down, returned to the U.S., and reused for subsequent shipments," explains Schlosser. The aircraft manufacturer expects production of many such shipping containers in this closed-loop system. "This design eliminates the need for foam shipping supports that would otherwise be discarded," says Schlosser, "and this new product will save the manufacturer thousands in shipping costs due to its reusability."
The dunnage is composed of ¾" exterior plywood and attached with stainless steel V-Snaps. Machined part numbers and ease of assembly are some of the features designed into this unique product.
Versi-Panel Enclosures, and all its subsidiaries, support the world's Green effort with all wood products being harvested from sustainable forests. For a slide show of the Aircraft Fuselage Support Dunnage assembly process, click here.
